Case Study - Editorial Design & Novel Concept

207 Victoires

He fought the world, and sometimes himself. A contemporary novel.

207 Victoires is a semi-autobiographical novel following a young man navigating the distance between Algeria and Europe - not the geographic distance, but the one between who he was told to become and who he actually is. The book counts victories the way most stories count losses: in small, unglamorous, daily units. It is not a story about winning. It is a story about staying in the fight long enough to notice you already are.

The Story

Every small win counted.

The novel follows its narrator across two continents and one long internal argument - between the version of himself shaped by displacement, expectation, and survival, and the one he's quietly trying to build on his own terms. Migration here is not a backdrop; it's the mechanism. Every chapter is a negotiation between where he came from and who that makes him allowed to be.

The title is literal: 207 is a number of victories the narrator keeps, privately, almost obsessively - proof, collected one small day at a time, that healing doesn't arrive as a single event. It arrives as a tally.

Teaser

A first look.

A short cinematic teaser built around the cover's own imagery - restraint, low light, and a single question the book spends 300 pages answering.

Literary Voice

Cinematic, unsentimental.

Influences

The prose sits deliberately between three references: Yasmina Khadra's moral weight and North African specificity, Camus's dry clarity and refusal to console the reader, and John Green's ear for how young people actually talk when no one's editing them.

Structure & Pacing

Short chapters, cinematic scene-cuts, and a narrator who tells you what happened before he lets himself tell you what it cost him - a structure built to be read fast and to land slow.

Editorial Process

From draft to manuscript.

Chapter-Level Rewriting

Multiple chapters rebuilt from the ground up to hold a consistent literary register - cutting exposition, sharpening dialogue, and making sure every scene earned its place.

Continuity & Consistency Pass

A full continuity edit across character details, timelines, and place names - the unglamorous work that decides whether a reader trusts the book by page 40.

Print-Ready Formatting

Full manuscript typesetting and formatting for Amazon KDP print - trim size, margins, chapter breaks, and front/back matter, prepared for physical production.

Cover Design

One image, one argument.

The cover had to do the same work as the book: restraint over spectacle. A single red light in a bare brick room. A young man in chains he could, technically, remove himself. The image doesn't explain the metaphor - it just holds it there, quietly, until the reader picks the book up to find out why.

Il s'est battu contre le monde, et parfois contre lui-même.
